Advent Services
A Meditation on Psalms
Advent is a four-week time to wait and prepare the way for Christ’s birth on Christmas Eve. This is a spiritual renewal time to prepare our hearts for the joy of the incarnation of Christ with us. Most Christian denominations observe Advent in anticipation of Christmas, the Second coming of Christ and the continued weekly celebration of Christ’s special presence in the sacrament of communion. We can practice this anticipation by using Advent calendars, special devotions, lighting an Advent wreath, setting up a Chrismon tree, and setting up Christmas decorations like tree, lights, nativity sets. Sometimes we do this liturgically through a Hanging of the Greens service. There are Christmas programs for adults and children, special parties, and gift giving that continues through the Christmas and Epiphany season.
