Christ the King Sunday
November 23, 2025, Worship at 10 am
This is the last Sunday of the church liturgical year. Also know as the Feast of Christ the King this service emphasizes the sovereignty of Jesus Christ over all creation. It began in the early 20th century to mark a moment for spiritual reflection and divine authority. instituted by Pope Pius XI in 1925, this celebration was initially a response to growing secularism and nationalism. The Pope sought to remind the faithful of Christ’s ultimate authority over human affairs, transcending political and social boundaries. This feast day was intended to reaffirm the spiritual sovereignty of Jesus, countering ideologies that threatened to overshadow religious values.
This special day is placed symbolically at the end of the liturgical year, serving as a reminder that Christ’s reign is eternal, encompassing all time and creation. This Sunday reminds us of our belief that Jesus’ kingship isn’t just limited to the past or future but is a present reality. We reflect on the entirety of Christ’s life, death, and resurrection, and recognize His ongoing influence in the world.
